Rivetless nut plate
Fatigue Technology Inc. has developed a rivetless nut plate solution that incorporates the beneficial effects of hole cold expansion with the elimination of attaching rivets for nut plates. Hole cold expansion is a mechanical process that introduces residual compressive stress into the material around the hole. The ForceTec nut plate is different from typical designs in that it permanently installs a nut-mounting retainer into the bolt hole. The installation of this part using innovative cold-working technology offers protection from fatigue cracking around the hole and ensures the nut will be allowed to float.
Water-soluble coolant
Hangsterfer's Laboratories, Inc. has developed and won approval by some aerospace companies for its S-500 CF water-soluble coolant. The coolant is suitable for machining and grinding aluminum, alloy steels, and titanium. The high oil content of the product also makes it good for drilling, tapping, and reaming. S-500 CF has a zero health rating on the HMIS scale of 0-4.
Noise-reduction headset
Holmco will be showcasing its Silencer headset that features active noise reduction (ANR) of up to 18 dB. Noise reduction is accomplished by superimposing the noise signal with an actively generated cancellation signal, mirroring the noise signal accurately. The system features a noise-canceling condenser microphone that can be worn on either the left or right side. A 550-mAh battery provides up to 25 h of ANR operation.
Fluid systems simulation
AMESim from Imagine Software, Inc. offers a complete 1-D simulation environment that provides adaptive solutions for fluid power, mechanical, thermal, thermo-fluid, and control systems. The solution enables engineers to study the dynamic behavior of any component or circuit with an application-oriented approach. Based on advanced numerical integrators, the AMESim solver automatically selects from 29 algorithms the best calculation method, depending on the dynamics of the system. The software features 14 open libraries that contain state-of-the-art models needed to design and simulate fluid/mechanical systems.
Parts traceability system
Intermec has developed a complete parts traceability solution, including direct parts marking, imagers that connect to portable computers on the manufacturing floor, printers and labels, dot-peening, and chemical etching. The company has brought together off-the-shelf products such as Hawkeye imagers that read low contrast marks with high reliability, Mxi imagers for good working distance and variable field of view, Intermec scanners and printers, and Intermec chem-etch stencils that print on any thermal transfer printer for etching part symbols on most metal parts.
