Seamless beryllium tubing has extreme stiffness

Nuclear Metals is manufacturing custom-engineered, seamless extruded beryllium tubing for use as satellite truss structures, antenna booms, and solar array panels. The tubing features 100-120 kpsi tensile strength with extreme stiffness (Young's Modulus of 42 Mpsi). It can be fabricated with lighter and thinner walls than graphite composites. Its sizes range from 1/8 in. to 6 in. O.D., and its density is 0.067 lb/in3. An effective heat sink, this seamless tubing has a specific heat of 1.89 J/g·°C and a coefficient of thermal expansion of 11.6 x 10-6/°C.
