Lightweight parts cut from nonmetallic honeycomb material

PressCut Industries (www.presscut.com) die cuts lightweight, high-strength parts from nonmetallic honeycomb material. One application was used as a dielectric space on an aircraft electronic antenna. The material used, a 4.8-mm aramid fiber-phenolic resin honeycomb, yielded a lightweight high-strength nonmetallic structural part with excellent dielectric properties that met the requirements of Mil-C-8196. Cutting this material required a special proprietary steel rule die and process. Production rates exceed 5000 parts per day with existing tooling.
