Flame-retardant thermoplastic polyurethane

BFGoodrich Specialty Plastics (www.bfgoodrich.com) has developed Estane 58170 TPU, a non-halogen flame-retardant 70D polyester NHFR thermoplastic polyurethane material. It exhibits good impact and abrasion properties and surface quality, good processability, and good colorability compared to nylon, rubber, polystyrene, and high-density polyethylene. The material also provides improved UV stability, with good flexibility and resiliency across a wide temperature range without the use of a plasticizer or halogenated retardants. Characteristics include a limited oxygen index of 27, a flex modulus of 138,000 psi, and a tensile strength greater than 3000 psi.
