Polymer replaces aluminum in aircraft applications

Airbus Industries (www.airbus.com), a consortium of European aircraft manufacturers, has chosen VICTREX (www.victrex.com) PEEK polymer to replace aluminum in a variety of components including cable conduits, cable clips, and luggage rack retainers. According to the group, a 50% reduction in part weight and a cost savings of up to 75% can be realized. The polymer also exhibits excellent flame retardance with a V-O flammability rating down to 1.45 mm without the use of additives.
