Coaxial cable
K-Flex from Kaman Instrumentation is a flexible microwave coaxial cable, using a great amount of PTFE for improvements in electrical performance, physical integrity, and flexibility. The cables use the company's proprietary connector designs and K-Sure termination technology.
DVD reproducers
Available in both in-seat and head-end versions, TEAC's DVD reproducers are fully plug-and-play compatible with existing Hi-8 mm video systems, so they install easily without aircraft rewiring. Since there are no tape heads to clean, preventive maintenance is not required. The systems are designed for a MTBF of 20,000 h vs. 5000 h for tape-based systems.
Digital instruments
Designed to perform standard pitot-static system leak tests or FAR 43 Appendix E certifications, Barfield, Inc.'s DALT-55 digital altimeter and DAS-650 digital airspeed indicator are similar in shape and size to current analog instruments and fit the 1811 series and most other test sets. State-of-the-art transducer technology for pressure measurements make the units virtually immune to frequent and costly repairs associated with analog instruments. Both units are battery-powered and provide the portability of analog testers, but offer greater reliability, reduced downtime, and high accuracy (exceeding FAR 43 Appendix E specifications).
Lighting controller
Primarily designed for business jets or commercial jets configured for VIP use, B/E Aerospace, Inc.'s SMART lighting controller handles on/off and dimming functions for up to four separate lighting zones and provides a range of settings from 30-100% of full brightness. The device features six user-defined memories, which allow the user to establish different moods in different parts of the aircraft. It offers advantages to midsize and super-midsize aircraft operators, providing compact digital control without the installation of a complex cabin management system.
Miniature capacitor
Evans Capacitor Co.'s miniature capacitor has a thickness of 1.4 mm and 10 times the energy density of a tantalum electrolytic capacitor with similar electrical performance. Its frequency response make it particularly suitable for use in high-performance avionics, communications electronics, air- and surface-based radar, power supply, computer systems, and electronic applications.
Power contactors
Small, lightweight K-Series contactors from CII Technologies, Hartman Products, are used in dc power distribution systems for private, military, and commercial aircraft as well as high-performance ground and marine vehicles. Flexible and weighing between 0.50 and 0.75 lb, these dual-usage contactors are designed for continuous operation at 200, 300, or 400 A, 28 V dc, or for start-duty applications requiring starter inrush currents up to 1000-2000 A.
Tri-axial accelerometer
Columbia Research Laboratories' 960-TX tri-axial piezoelectric accelerometer was designed specifically to monitor vibrations generated by military and commercial helicopter engines, transmissions, and airframes. Three miniature, mutually perpendicular vibration sensors have been mounted into a rugged machined housing that incorporates a single central mounting screw. Each vibration sensor features integrated thick-film electronic signal conditioning circuitry that provides high sensitivity, temperature compensation, and low-impedance output drive capability.
