Carbide tooling
Carboloy Inc.'s new grade CP250 has a PVD multi-layer coating and a thick layer of TiAIN for good wear resistance and tool life in high-speed semi-roughing and semi-finishing operations. Another new grade, CP200, excels in semi-roughing to finish the most difficult alloys, including IN 100, Rene 95, nickel, cobalt, and cobalt-chrome alloys; it is also versatile enough for efficient machining of the softest titanium alloys.
Blind bolt
A new aerospace blind bolt from Mascotech's Monogram Aerospace Fasteners division is designed for use in primary structure. The OSI (one-sided installation) bolt replaces conventional two-piece solid shank shear pins and collars. It has interference fit and high preload capability and is vibration-resistant to NAS1675 testing.
Measuring system
Faro Technologies has added its Precision Rail to its CAM2 (computer-aided manufacturing measurement) line. It provides a solution for extended measurement of up to 20 ft in length without sacrificing the accuracy of the FaroArm attached to itand in one setup. Available in a variety of lengths, the new rail can be integrated into fixture setup for a multi-station checking cell. By positioning the rail adjacent to multiple holding fixtures, one FaroArm can measure many parts in one setup.
Electronic ballast
A new family of electronic ballasts for commercial aircraft lighting applications, the EB2000 Series from Day-Ray Products, Inc. are lightweight and efficient. Model 43-7-1 is designed for operation on the MD-80, DC-9, DC-10, and other aircraft using 230 V ac for cabin lighting. The 43-7 will power one or two T12 fluorescent lamps ranging in size from 14-40 W over an ambient temperature operating range of 15 to 70°C. It is the first ballast to be approved under the new FAA TSO-C141 guidelines.
Electrochemical etch system
A low-cost electrochemical etch system for permanently marking commercial aircraft and engine metal parts from Marking Methods, Inc. directly applies a machine-readable, 2-D data matrix code as specified by Air Transport Association Spec. 2000. Data matrix codes are scaleable and can be marked in very small areas. The system consists of an electric power unit, marking applicator, stencils, electrolyte, cleaner, imprinter, and software to create the stencils.
Weather radar radomes
A capabilities brochure from the Aerospace Components business unit of Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics features the company's range of high-performance quartz fiber weather radar radomes, which meet Class A, Category 1 requirements of jet air transport manufacturers. The design, manufacture, and repair capabilities are highlighted.
