Universal Avionics Systems Corp. has received Supplemental Type Certification and Parts Manufacturer Approval from the FAA for the Thrane & Thrane-manufactured Aero-I and Aero-M satcom telephone systems installed on its aircraft. Both the multi-channel Aero-I and the single-channel Aero-M system use Inmarsat-3 satellites. The Aero-I provides a simultaneous three-channel system accommodating cabin and flight deck communications and future CNS/ATM integration; the Aero-M system provides worldwide public telephone, fax, and data transmission capabilities using the Inmarsat-3 satellite spot beams.
