Vexcel Corp. has announced the commercial availability of improved radar-derived elevation data products using a technique called shape-from-shading, or radarclinometry. The technique allows for greater accuracy in the production of digital elevation models (DEM) for areas such as deserts and rain forests, which may not be well suited to DEM generation from more traditional stereo processing methods.
