Advanced Hawkeye gets advanced testing
The U.S. Navy's E-2C Hawkeye, a carrier-based early-warning aircraft with a distinctive 24-ft diameter rotating radome and quadruple vertical tails, is part of a fleet of aircraft that has been operational for more than 40 years, first seeing combat in Vietnam. The aircraft serves essentially as the manager of carrier-group operations. It has the ability to monitor 6 million mi3 of airspace and more than 150,000 mi2 of ocean surface while detecting hundreds of ships, aircraft, missiles, or targets up to 200 mi away.
