U.S. Army purchases boresight equipment

DRS Technologies, Inc. has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command for the maintenance and supply of Captive Boresight Harmonization Kits (CBHK). These systems are used with the Army's Apache and Apache Longbow attack helicopters and are part of DRS's multiple platform boresight equipment (MPBE).

MPBE systems are portable, ground-support devices that align an aircraft's navigation, targeting, and weapon systems with the pilot's sighting gear to ensure synchronization and target accuracy when weapons are released. These systems enable the Army quickly and easily to boresight the Apache and Apache Longbow helicopters with equipment that is commonly used in other rotary-and fixed-wing aircraft. Other MPBE applications include the Army National Guard, the U.S. Marine Corps, and other allied Cobra helicopters and the U.S. Air Force AC-130U gunship.

The MPBE incorporates DRS's Tri-axial Measurement System (TMS), a single-beam, laser-based, electro-optical device that provides simultaneous and continuous measurement of sighting systems on three axes. The core technology of TMS allows the company to develop boresight products with common applications across multiple military air platforms. The technology is currently under consideration for use on domestic and international fixed-wing aircraft such as the F-14, F-15, F-16, F/A-18, and AV-8B.
