Onera looks at flying wings

While the likelihood of a new large SST (supersonic transport) to replace the Concorde—which has just come to the end of its operational life with British Airways and Air France—seems slim at present, research continues into aspects of supersonic civil aircraft with particular emphasis on the reduction of effects on the environment. Onera, the French research organization, has been involved in the just-completed European Union EPISTLE project, which validated numerical design methodology for low-noise, high-lift systems of high-speed aircraft.
