Technology update
Aircraft braking

AlliedSignal Aerospace has introduced a new carbon brake for use on the Boeing 767-200 and -300 aircraft. The brake incorporates the company's state-of-the-art CARBENIX heat sink material and an advanced brake frame to provide smooth braking and high reliability. The CARBENIX material was derived from the same family of material that has been operating reliably on the Boeing 777 since 1996.

Since application of its first brake on the 767, the company has continuously incorporated improvements. One such improvement was made in 1987, in which the company went from steel brakes to carbon ones.

To date, 15 operators representing 163 airplanes have selected this new brake, which was initially introduced into service in December 1998. AlliedSignal is currently coordinating the upgrade to the new brake with existing operators while supporting all new-production aircraft delivered by Boeing.
