Technology update
MTU and Snecma
-
MTU Munchen and French engine maker Snecma have embarked on a joint venture to produce ceramic coatings for engine components. The new company is called Ceramic Coating Center (CCC), with each partner holding a 50% share. Its headquarters is at Chatellerault, France. CCC's work will focus on components for GE's CF6 engine program, in which MTU plays a major role in both production and maintenance, and the CFM56 powerplant, produced jointly by Snecma and GE.
A new test bed has been installed by MTU Maintenance Berlin-Brandenburg. The PW206 helicopter engine newly developed by Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) has been tested there. The PW206 powers helicopters that include the Eurocopter EC 135. MTU's test bed for Pratt & Whitney's PT6A helicopter engine has also been moved to a facility in Ludwigsfelde, Germany. MTU plans to make further investments at the site.
