Open-front plastic bins on louvered panels hung within specially fabricated mobile cabinets are providing necessary parts for production teams at BAE Systems in Filton, Bristol, England. The shapes and sizes of hundreds of parts were measured and recorded to achieve the optimum arrangement of containers and cabinets on the production line. The cabinets, produced by Allibert Equipment, contain a water reservoir in the base to minimize fire risk. The system allows an instant stock-check and saves the production teams time, obviating the need to search through bags and cartons for appropriate parts. Color coding is used to enhance part identification, and the need for a central store has been eliminated.
