BMW Z8

BMW Z8.
BMW's new Z8 sports car will be at the Frankfurt Motor Show this month. The car echoes the classic lines of the 1950s BMW 507. Its V8 engine is also used in the current BMW M5, producing 298 kW (400 hp) and 598 N•m (369 lb•ft) of torque. The engine uses double VANOS variable valve timing, which allows peak torque to be achieved at 3800 rpm with 400 N•m (295 lb•ft) available at 1200 rpm. It drives through a six-speed gearbox for a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) time of less than five seconds.

The Z8's chassis incorporates an aluminum spaceframe. Body panels are made of a combination of aluminum and polyurethane. Aluminum finds extensive use for suspension components. The Z8 is due on sale early next year.
