Global Concepts (Part 1)
Opel Concept A
-
Although very small, Opel's Concept A has highly versatile packaging. The divided rear bench seat can be folded, in halves, into the floor, creating a flat cargo area similar to that of the production Opel Zafira minivan. The front passenger seat also folds flat. An extendable, track-mounted loading ramp has been designed to carry two mountain bikes. The car has a boxy, wheel-at-each-corner shape, with a high belt line. Its 1.0-L three-cylinder power unit from the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa is dual-fuel-capable. The driver presses a button to switch between compressed natural gas (CNG) or gasoline. The engine is turbocharged and has a high output of 65 kW (88 hp) in CNG mode, fractionally less at 63 kW (86 hp) using gasoline. Torque is similarly better when the engine uses CNG. The CNG is compressed in an ultra-light safety tank made of aluminum and carbon fiber.
