Global Concepts (Part 1)
Daewoo Mirae

The Mirae (Korean for "future") is Daewoo's idea of a future car that can accommodate two people in laid-back comfort. The car can be either left- or right-side-driven, with the control module able to be slid to either side of the cockpit. The car is powered by an advanced experimental version of the type XS6 2.5-L inline six, fitted with an electromagnetic valvetrain, that puts out 127 kW (170 hp) at 5300 rpm and 245 Nom (180 lboft) at 4200 rpm. It is combined with an automatically shifting six-speed mechanical transmission. The engine is a design work of Daewoo's German R&D Center, and is extremely compact and light in mass, easily fitting transversely in a typical compact/mid-size car. The engine has a 77-mm (3.03-in) bore and 89.2-mm (3.51-in) stroke. Dual-overhead camshafts are driven by a single-stage chain and act on four valves per cylinder via rocker arms incorporating roller contacts. When ready for the road, the engine will produce about 94 kW (126 hp) at 5500 rpm and 250 Nom (184 lboft) at 3800 rpm.
