Global Concepts (Part 1)
Lexus Sport Coupe
-
Toyota's EuroPean Office of Creation (EPOC) presented a concept car at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show that is said to be close to production, and is Lexus' answer to Mercedes-Benz. The Lexus Sport Coupe is a 2+2 roadster fitted with an electrically operated hard top that disappears into or comes out of the trunk in 20 s. The 4515-mm (178-in) long coupe/convertible rides on a 2620-mm (103-in) wheelbase. Its welded steel body is extremely rigid, according to Toyota. The car features all-independent suspension by double wishbones, a hydraulically assisted brake system, and a tuned version of the LS/GS400's quad-cam, 32-valve 4.0-L V8 engine.
