Global Concepts (Part 2)
Opel Zafira Snowtrekker

The Zafira Snowtrekker is a compact van from Opel with an aluminum, 112-kW (150-hp), 2.2-L gasoline direct-injection engine and permanent four-wheel drive. Its integrated box in the middle of the glass panorama roof can hold new T-Power short skis from French ski manufacturer Rossignol. The concept's Flex-7 seating system has six seats in three rows. Between the two seats in the middle row is a large heated storage box that also serves as an armrest. The instrument panel features an innovative operating concept with only three centrally configured push, pull, and turn buttons that control the air conditioning, radio, mobile phone, navigation system, and heated rear window. All the switches and controls for driving-indicators, headlights and dipped beams, warning lights, and wipers-are in the steering wheel. The vehicle's ECOTEC DIRECT concept engine is based on GM's new four-cylinder engine generation that will appear in the Astra Coupe and Speedster. The engine is 8-12% more economical than the engine on which it is based. It relies on a swirl-wall-controlled combustion concept and a correspondingly aligned combustion chamber geometry. At 5-12 MPa (725-1740 psi), fuel pressure is much higher than in conventionally aspirated engines.
