Global Concepts (Part 2)
Chrysler 300 Hemi C
-
V8 power and rear-wheel drive return to the Chrysler brand in the form of the Chrysler 300 Hemi C, a four-passenger luxury performance convertible. Patterned after cars such as the 1957 Chrysler 300 C convertible, the new concept features a prototype all-aluminum 5.7-L pushrod V8 engine with hemispherical combustion chambers and two spark plugs per cylinder. Estimated power is 263 kW (353 hp), with 479 Nom (353 lboft) of torque delivered via a four-speed automatic transmission. Engine fuel efficiency and emissions are enhanced by automatic deactivation of four of the eight cylinders during highway driving and deceleration. A hydraulically shifted lost-motion feature deactivates the valves while the motor management system interrupts ignition and fuel supply to the cylinders. The concept's independent suspension has modified MacPherson struts in front and an aluminum five-link rear setup. An "infotronic" system includes global positioning, a trunk-mounted "plug-and-play" laptop computer, Internet access for real-time weather and traffic information, and e-mail. A fingerprint scanner linked to a small camera provides added security; the vehicle will not function if the driver's fingerprint and picture do not match system information. The infotronic system is directed by voice commands or through a liquid crystal display in the instrument panel. Voice commands control audio, climate, diagnostics, phone, and security systems (including the driver's home security system).
