Mercedes-Benz Vision SLR

Mercedes-Benz Vision SLR combines exterior styling elements of the current McLaren-Mercedes Formula 1 racecar and the Mercedes-Benz SLR sports car from the 1950s. Its body combines fiber-reinforced materials and aluminum for a weight advantage of about 40% compared to traditional steel construction. The interior is dominated by the wide, gently curved central console as well as a silver-painted spoiler shape in front of the passengers that replaces the usual instrument panel. Carbon-fiber bucket seats, an oval steering wheel, and modern information systems such as the Cockpit Management and Data (COMAND) system are included.

The car uses a first-of-a-kind electrohydraulic brake system that calculates brake pressure by means of sensors and microprocessors. Brake discs are of fiber-reinforced ceramics and capable of withstanding extreme loads. The headlights, with adaptive light systems and a new type of high-performance LED, automatically track the steering angle and adapt to any given driving situation.

The long hood of the Vision SLR conceals a 5.5-L V8 engine enhanced by a compressor and water intercooling. Outputs of 410 kW (557 hp) and 720 N•m help to accelerate the Vision SLR from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mi/h) in only 4.2 s and from 0 to 200 km/h (124 mi/h) in 11.3 s. Top speed is 320 km/h (199 mi/h).
