Mitsubishi SSU
-
Mitsubishi calls the SSU an "extreme sports vehicle." It was designed and built in-house at the Mitsubishi Motors R&D of America (MRDA) design studio. Exposed hinges, fasteners, and materials are left in their "rawest, purest" form for the "Geo-mechanical" design theme. The width of the vehicle is a notable 2022 mm (79.6 in.)76 mm (3 in.) wider than a Chevrolet Suburban.
The SSU is powered by a 2.5-L, DOHC, 24-valve V6 with twin turbochargers and intercooling to produce 231 kW (310 hp). It has full-time all-wheel drive, yaw control, and a five-speed automatic transmission with clutchless manual capability.
Exterior details include rear lighting by Visteon using laser technology. Its thin vertical headlamps, large round fog lamps, and upper cabin clearance lights use high-output LEDs. Custom 295/50R20 Goodyear run-flat tires are mounted on 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. Inside, an onboard computer is controlled by a mouse-like disc between the front seats that operates the climate control, audio system, phone, pager messaging, and Internet access.
