Micro Compact Car is to introduce a convertible version of its stylish Smart two-seat city car. On sale in March 2000, it was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The folding fabric roof is powered, and when open sits over the car's luggage compartment. The roof supports can be removed and stored in a special compartment without impeding trunk space. The engine of the Smart convertible is the same Suprex turbocharged gasoline unit used in the coupe. It produces 40 kW (55 hp) from a volume of 600 cm3. Front and taillamps have been redesigned for the convertible.
