Bugatti's Chiron surprise

Bugatti always manages to surprise at a motor show, and Frankfurt in September was no exception. The mid-engined Bugatti EB 18/3 Chiron (named after Louis Chiron, a renowned Bugatti driver of the 1920s and 1930s), as is usual with Bugatti designs, combines advanced technology with "retro" elements. The Chiron has an 18-cylinder engine, a further development of a front-engine Bugatti configuration for the EB 218, already revealed by the VW Group and described by AEI. The unit is a direct-injection type with 6.3-L producing 408 kW (555 hp). The Chiron's body is made of carbon fiber. The car has permanent four-wheel drive. Top speed is said to be "considerably over" 300 km/h (186 mph). The interior of the car has some neat touches, including a separate starter button on the center console and a mechanical, removable chronograph with an integrated stopwatch function, positioned on the passenger side of the dashboard. Giugiaro designed the car.
