New composites applications

The Automotive Composites Alliance (ACA) is touting new applications of reinforced thermoset composites and other new technologies on 2004 models. Among them is the GMC Envoy XUV’s roof module, which is a sheetmolded composite (SMC) part that can be moved forward to create a bed for hauling tall cargo items. The Envoy also features an SMC endgate panel manufactured by ThyssenKrupp Budd and a composite midgate that separates the passenger compartment from the cargo area.
