TPO-skin instrument panel
-
Thermoplastic polyolefin is a material made by combining rubber with polypropylene, a petroleum by-product that is the lightest and lowest-cost form
of plastic. Rubberized polypropylene is classified as TPO when the material contains at least 20% rubber. Delphi Automotive applied its 100% recyclable TPO-skin technology to develop an integral steering wheel and driver airbag module. The company uses water-based primer and topcoat systems on its TPO components, reducing ozone-forming volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. Delphi's TPO-skin technology is available on the 1999/2000 Mercedes-Benz M-Class and 2000 Pontiac Bonneville.
