Seatbelt fiber innovation

AlliedSignal Inc. has developed a new automotive seatbelt fiber made with patented Securus fiber that evens out the force a passenger experiences during a collision. Woven into in a seatbelt strap, it limits the movement of an occupant's upper body so that it moves more slowly into the airbag. Securus establishes a new category in synthetic fibers, PELCO — the first patented polyester-caprolactone block co-polymer and the first fiber specifically engineered for safety restraints and other managed-energy applications.
