Second-generation common-rail
-
Bosch's second-generation common rail system, to be introduced in Europe in 2002, uses accumulator injection to increase injection pressure to 160 Mpa (23 psi) throughout the range of engine operation. The system incorporates piezo actuators, which reach significantly higher response speeds than solenoid valves used in today's system. It features variable injection pressures, system flexibility, and reduced noise all of which are beneficial in reducing emissions. The company believes the technology will result in higher sales of vehicles powered by diesel engines.
