Sensors measure speed, direction

Rechner Electronics' MRS sensors based on the magnetoresistive effect can operate at speeds of 20 kHz and can distinguish the direction of shaft rotation. Multi-directional shaft encoder functions can be performed with a single sensor. A two-color LED changes color according to direction of rotation. The sensors have short circuit protection and are available in a 12-mm (0.47 in.) or 18-mm (0.71 in.) diameter.
