Catalyst meets stringent standards

Degussa-Huls' HPT-X 5 catalyst uses platinum instead of palladium to clean the exhaust emissions from cars with gasoline engines. The catalyst meets the exhaust emissions standards scheduled for effect in 2005 with the planned EURO IV standard and its U.S. equivalent ULEV. In addition to the advantages of more efficient removal of nitrogen oxide emissions and better resistance to sulphur, prices are more stable since supply of platinum on the world's markets is higher than supply of palladium.
