Charged for growth
Turbocharging has been around for over 100 years. The original turbocharger patent was awarded in 1905 to Swiss engineer Alfred Büchi. It took a while for the turbocharger to catch on with passenger vehiclesa Honeywell unit debutingin 1962 on the Oldsmobile F85 Jetfire. Since then, the performance-boosting technology has cycled in an out of fashion, but is now back in vogue. With fuel efficiency a focus in the era of $70/barrel crude oil, automakers are looking to downsize engines but maintain or boost vehicle performance via turbocharging.
