Delphi improves crash protection
A frontal crash protection module that integrates an energy-absorbing steering column, knee bolster, and pedal assembly can reduce the impact load to the driver’s knee, femur, hip, and lower extremities. Head-to-toe protection is also possible by coupling the module with a steering-wheel airbag. “In contrast to the separate systems, the added value gained from the first-ever integrated approach using the Delphi Driver Protection Module [DDPM] is a more comprehensive energy-absorption system that reduces loads in all three areas: the head, chest, and lower extremities,” said Rick Nash, Chief Engineer for steering columns at Delphi.
