Bosch third-generation common rail for Audi
The new 3.0-L six-cylinder diesel engine in Audi's A8 has the first application of Bosch's third-generation common-rail injection system featuring "piezoelectric inline technology," production of which began in May. By the end of 2003, Bosch plans to produce in its Bamberg factory around 20,000 piezoelectric inline injectors for Audi and other OEMs. Orders from DaimlerChrysler, BMW, and Renault are expected to increase deliveries in 2004 to 300,000 units, with more than 2 million expected to come off the production lines in 2005.
