T&N Composites has developed new heat shield materials. These patented, fully recyclable products, marketed under the brand names Nimbus and Cirrus, have been produced in response to customer and industry demand for lightweight, highly efficient thermal barrier products with effective acoustic dampening characteristics. The Nimbus manufacturing process involves placing thin sheets of aluminum together and subjecting them to a patented process that produces a mechanical bond over the entire face of the sheets. The resulting flat two-ply sheet can be subsequently formed using a conventional stamping press. Nimbus is the aluminum-based product and Cirrus is aluminum-clad steel-based for high-temperature applications. A ceramic fiber can be locked mechanically between the two layers to enhance the thermal and acoustic performance further.
