Cummins Engine Co. has introduced the new ISC diesel engine, a 24-valve, in-line six-cylinder turbocharged engine with full-authority electronic controls. The engine combines advanced electronic engine controls, high-pressure fuel injection, and heavy-duty components to achieve high levels of power, fuel economy, reliability, and durability. In addition, having two exhaust and two intake valves per cylinder provides a freer-breathing design. The 24-valve design also makes it possible to center the fuel injector directly over the center of the piston for optimized combustion management and nearly instantaneous response.
